My vegan switch-(ish)… Journey

Hello.

This is my little story about my switch to vegan. Now I know that this story has been told a million times but I am doing this for me as I want to start writing everyday and watch less TV, as well as making healthier choices and becoming more healthy. My ultimate goal, to see if I can become a vegan!

Where to start… hmmmm.. well I guess where my journey begins is a few years ago when I was living in Vancouver (I think this is where most vegans come from, it is a modern hippy city [not to be confused with HIPSTERS]. As most people know so many people there are very health conscious. I love and miss my city (Vancouver), but I also love where I live now.) I had a 3 year spurt of being mostly a vegetarian (an occasional stake would find its way onto my plate and I would not say no all the time). Now I would like to note that I was in no way doing this right; First of all I was eating an occasional piece of meat… when I say meat I mean a few ounces (as in less than 5) of steak, I had no desire to eat any other meat, it was just steak that would take my heart and stroke it like a purring cat… then I would eat the steak and feel so great… this at the end of my 3 years would ultimately get me onto beacon one day and then I was ruined. I went back to eating meat just as before. Now it has been ….. not even sure how long and I have been  eating meat now…. but i would guess about 10 years.

I loved being a vegetarian-(ish), I felt so great all the time. My skin was wonderful (granted I was under 25 at the time. I am sure that had something to do with it too but I assume it helped keep me looking young). When I was little my aunt would always stress the importance of our boules  and its movements and ….. final product so to speak, anyway the “final product” was what it was supposed to be. I am not going to get into all that here but I do urge people to read up on what your “final product” is telling you about what your diet is like. So all of these things are what I want now in my life.

The other side of the coin is the damaging effects of the agricultural practices that take place in society. The practices today are killing our planet and us. We are suffering because the shit they do to our food is ridiculous and we are oblivious to it… I am not here to preach to you so if you want to know more do your research. These big companies are only here for the money right now, they don’t care about you, as long as you pay for their products they will provide with no regards to how it affects you or this planet that provides us life.

I have told a few people that I have started to become a vegan-(ish), and I have had a mixed response. Some have said “that is amazing, good for you” some “I could never but, good for you” and others “what is wrong with you? It is gross” …  LOL.. It is funny how many people are nay-sayers , but that is no problem, it isn’t them doing this; it’s me!, and when I feel fantastic and healthy I Just will and stick my tongue out at them and say well this is for me and not you..

I have the most loving husband Josh (ok we are not married yet but will be ). He has been so supportive and quite on board with most of it. We have come to a compromise where-in, all week long we eat at the least vegetarian  and then on the weekends we can eat not vegetarian if we so wish. a few months ago (ok a year now) we made the conscious decision to eat less meat…. now we still had meat at every meal at the beginning but we cut the portion size down dramatically and closer to the end of the year we were only eating meat 3 times a week. We learnt about raw cashews and the power within from my friend Bianca and being that both Josh and I are lactose intolerant, cashews made sense to use to start using as milk and as of today cheese (both homemade).

As many of my friends know, I love to cook, and I like to know what is going into my food. Sure, sure, when we are out at dinner I care less about what is going into my food and more about the service and the taste, and how the dish makes me feel. I think that you have to indulge once in a while. I know there is just so many terrible things that are in our food and we all have to start paying more attention to this. Going back to my aunt for a moment; she eats organic and beat cancer many years ago with eating right and taking vitamins and herbs. She has also helped people do the same thing as she without chemo and pharmaceutical drugs. So when I was young this was something I saw every day, this and other ailments . My aunt is like a mother to me (much more than my own mother, but that is a story for another time) and my inspiration to be healthy and happy in body and in mind.

deja vu moment… I get these a lot in my life. Right now i remember being in this exact moment. finishing this post, Josh in the other room, and a thought going through my head ” should we order pizza or am i going to cook tonight (i should ask josh) … right after i finish my post.” and i swear that i have done all this before some time ago, it feels like years ago.. and now it has passed.

Throughout my posts i will have deja vu moments read them or don’t it is all up to you.. I get these thoughts all the time. so now that I am writing I am going to put them in my writings. I heard once that deja vu is the universe’s way of telling you that you are in the exact place that you need to be in life….. some say it is your past life intersecting with the current one… either way they are kinda cool and fun to experience…

OK, this post is a lot longer than I had originally planned so I will break this now and post my last 2 days of what I cooked and what failed and what was a success in the next post later tonight, as I am hungry.. and need to eat some food…

wishing all the health and happiness to all.
